How to Hope in Jesus: 3 Practical Tips to start today

Hello Beautiful People!

In this season of your life, you may be feeling lost, confused, defeated, scared, alone or even hopeless! In spite of these feelings, we have to make every effort to “live to fight another day”. In doing so, we need to shift our focus, feed our faith and refuel our hope. Today, I’m here to help you do just that! Hope lives on within you. God has not forgotten you! He sees you, He knows you, He hears you!

Let’s dive in and anchor ourselves, fam. Here are 3 ways to put your hope in Jesus:

  1. Prayer (through scriptures)
  2. Worship (through songs)
  3. Accountability (through community)

PRAYER is key!

It’s important to be vulnerable with God and allow him to sit with us in our mess. We surrender control and allow him to move on our behalf. He loves it when we pray sincerely from our hearts. If we are honest with ourselves, we may not know what to pray or even have the strength to pray (who can relate??). I’ve been at this point many times and always realize that the Word of Life (the Bible) is a prayer in itself. Everything in it is true and transformational. Reading the scriptures and writing them down, is a great way to affirm, meditate, and pray His promises over our lives. This helps us to shift our focus. When we do so, we remind our problem about our God instead of reminding God about our problems! Here are four of my favorite scriptures that I rely on and pray with to help me when “going through it.”

  • Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
  • Isaiah 40:31 but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.
  • Deuteronomy 31:8 The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”
  • Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

I pray God’s Word right back to him. For example: “Lord, YOU said “xyz” so I am depending on you in this moment to show up on my behalf.” We’re basically dragging God….but in a nice way!

WORSHIP is a weapon!

Phewww! I can’t even begin to describe the power that worship has had in my life. When I am at my lowest, worship helps me to overcome. When I am at my highest, worship helps me to maintain. Worshipping God through songs allows us to honor him in our trials & tribulations, victory & triumphs. We have to feed our souls especially when we don’t see the end in sight. Play worship songs while studying, working, driving, cooking, whenever! Make it a lifestyle. Here are are few songs that I play to remind me where to put my hope on any given day! Needless to say, Maverick City Music is my favorite right now! I’d recommend listening to all of their albums!

ACCOUNTABILITY is life!

We were not meant to go through life alone. No matter what we are going through, the good and the bad, we need to have a community or support system to help us. Whether it is family, friends, strangers, etc., when we surround ourselves with likeminded individuals, there is no way that we can feel “hopeless” and be left to feel that way. God strategically places humans in our lives to give us a word of encouragement. We must create and maintain a community that honors God and strengthens us through our roller coaster moments. As a bonus, they can pray with you and worship with you! I am blessed to have a wonderful community of friends and family and I pray you have the same too!

Who can you call to help you through this season?

Of note: While we have other people to keep us accountable, we also have ourselves. Keep your promises to yourself. Don’t give up on you. Give yourself grace. Personally, I keep myself accountable by reading journal entries and reminding myself of where I once was. I also read old blog posts such as this one to encourage myself! The Anchor Holds blog is for you and me!

I challenge you to have hope. Take it one day at a time. If you can’t do a day, take it one hour at a time. If that’s still too much, take it one minute or second at a time. If that is still too much, take it one breath at a time! Whatever you do, don’t stop living.

“Take it one day at a time. If you can’t do a day, take it one hour at a time. If that’s still too much, take it one minute or second at a time. If that is still too much. Take it one breath at a time! Whatever you do, don’t stop living” – Dr. Queen, blogger The Anchor Holds
